Why do prices differ by material?

Material is only one factor in price — build complexity, internal structure, brand and logistics all move the number. Here is how to read price differences without a fixed gap.

Material is one input among several, and it is usually not the biggest one. The common claim that "silicone costs X more than TPE" is not a rule you can shop by — for a comparable form, silicone often sits at a higher price point, but individual listings move around that tendency for reasons that have little to do with the compound itself.

What actually moves the price

  • Material and formulation. Silicone compounds and specific TPE blends differ in cost, and firmer or softer specialty formulations can add to it in either category.
  • Build complexity. Sculpt detail, finish quality, and construction method all take labor and skill — this is often a larger share of the price than the raw material.
  • Internal structure. Skeleton type and articulation vary meaningfully between products.
  • Brand and seller positioning. Some makers price for reputation and service; others compete on volume. The same underlying build can sit at very different price points.
  • Region and logistics. Delivery, taxes and duties to your destination can move the total more than the material difference did.

How to read a price difference

  1. Compare within the same form and size. A price gap between different forms tells you about the forms, not the materials.
  2. Check what is actually included — head options, extras, packaging, and the listed delivery terms for your region.
  3. Ask what changed when a price moves. Formulation changes, seller changes and currency moves all show up as price changes without any material change.
  4. Treat any fixed "gap" claim as outdated. The honest version is a direction with a date, not a number.

The total-cost view

The listing price is the start of the bill, not the end of it. A realistic first-purchase budget includes the item, delivery and taxes for your region, initial care supplies, and appropriate storage. A cheaper direction that needs more care supplies and staining precautions is not automatically the cheaper direction over time.

This is why the material check routes very budget-sensitive buyers to set a total-cost boundary before settling material — the material choice is easier and more honest inside a defined budget than outside one.

Before trusting any price

Confirm on the seller's current page: the price of the exact configuration you would order, the delivery cost to your region, applicable taxes, and the return terms. Prices move — anything you read here or anywhere else should be dated, and ours carries the review date on our methodology page.
